The short answer

A law firm's website should explain each practice area in the client's language, take intake in a way that supports a conflict check, and make sure a call during court still becomes a consultation. Redenn builds firm sites on Next.js with structured intake, consultation booking and call coverage, from CA$799 for a Business Plus site, designed around your law society's marketing rules.

The problems we hear from law firms and sole practitioners

  • I am in court or in a closing all day and the calls go to voicemail; some of them were new matters.
  • People email their whole story before we have checked for conflicts.
  • Prospects ask what it costs, and the site says nothing about fees or consultations.
  • Our practice areas page is a list of nouns; nobody knows if we handle their situation.
  • Consultations get booked by email ping-pong and no-shows are common.
  • We are cautious about what we say online because the law society has marketing rules.

The solution architecture

Each piece maps to a real Redenn service with a published price.

  1. Practice area pages in the client's language

Each area gets a page organized around the situations people are actually in (separation, buying a first home, sponsoring a spouse, a will after a birth) with what you do, what happens first and how fees are structured in general terms.

    Website Development
  2. Intake that supports the conflict check

A structured form that captures the matter type, the parties' names and contact details before any narrative, with a clear statement that no lawyer-client relationship exists until the firm confirms. The narrative field is optional and short.

    Conversion Optimization
  3. Consultation booking with a fee and a questionnaire

Consultations booked into a lawyer's calendar with a short pre-consultation questionnaire, a payment link where the firm charges for consultations, and reminders that cut no-shows.

    Appointment Automation
  4. Calls covered during court

The AI Receptionist takes the call, captures the matter type and contact details, offers a consultation slot if your rules allow, and messages the summary to the assistant. It is configured to give no legal information.

  5. Secure document intake

After the conflict check clears, clients receive a private upload link for documents tied to their matter, with a checklist and reminders.

    Document Automation
  6. A matter-intake pipeline

A pipeline from enquiry through conflict check, consultation, retainer and open matter, with the source of every lead recorded. It is not practice management software; it feeds it.

    Lead Pipeline
  7. Local search for each practice area

Google Business Profile with correct categories and lawyers listed, and consistent firm information, so a search for a family lawyer in your city shows accurate details.

Where law firms and sole practitioners usually start

How customers find a law firm in Canada

Most legal clients arrive through a referral, a prior matter or a search for a specific need at a stressful moment: a separation, a real estate closing, an immigration deadline, a death in the family. They read the practice area page to see whether the firm handles their situation, look for a sense of fees, and then either call or fill in a form. If nobody answers, they move to the next firm.

Google states that its AI features in Search use the core index and ranking systems with no special requirements beyond standard SEO practice. Practice area pages written around real situations, accurate firm details and lawyer profiles are the content that gets surfaced in both classic and AI results, and the content an AI assistant can cite when asked what happens at a first family law consultation.

What a law firm website must do

It should qualify the matter, protect the firm at intake, and convert a stressed prospect into a booked consultation.

Pages and features for a law firm
Page or featurePurpose
Practice area pages by situationTells prospects whether you handle their problem.

Consultation booking with questionnaireFewer emails, fewer no-shows, better first meetings.
Fees and process pageHow consultations and retainers work, stated generally.

Secure document uploadPost-conflict-check intake of documents.
Disclaimer and privacy statementsNo relationship until confirmed; what is collected and why.

Automation and CRM for law firms

The right automation for a law firm is narrow and careful: acknowledge the enquiry, run the conflict check before anything else, book the consultation, remind the client, and collect documents after the retainer. The pipeline gives the managing lawyer a view of open enquiries and their sources without touching practice management or trust accounting.

Worked example at published prices: Business Plus at CA$799 with booking and a CMS, AI Receptionist from CA$149/month for coverage during court, a consultation reminder workflow from CA$149 and CRM Setup from CA$299. Secure document intake needs Redenn Dynamic hosting at CA$49/month. Telephony usage is billed separately.

  • Enquiry acknowledged with a conflict-check notice, not legal advice.
  • Consultation booked, paid if applicable, and reminded.
  • Document checklist and reminders after retainer.
  • Source recorded for every enquiry, from referral to search.

Compliance and trust

Lawyers are regulated by the law society of each province and territory, and those bodies set marketing rules: content must be accurate and not misleading, and several restrict claims of specialization or comparison unless certified or permitted. Confirm your law society's current rules before publishing testimonials, results or specialist wording. The site is built so those elements can be removed without a redesign, and it never promises outcomes.

Intake information is confidential and personal. PIPEDA, or the substantially similar provincial law, applies, and Quebec's Law 25 adds obligations such as a designated privacy officer. Intake and documents move through access-controlled channels, and the intake form is designed so a prospect can be conflict-checked before disclosing detail. Newsletters need CASL consent and an unsubscribe option. Quebec firms must make the site available in French.

Questions

Can an AI receptionist answer a law firm's phone?

For message-taking and consultation booking, yes. It captures the matter type and contact details, states that it cannot give legal information, and messages the summary to your assistant. Telephony usage is billed separately from the CA$149/month plan.

How does the intake form help with conflict checks?

It asks for the matter type and the names of the parties before any narrative, and states that no lawyer-client relationship exists until confirmed. Your staff run the conflict check, then send the secure document link.

Can we charge for consultations through the site?

Yes. Booking can require a payment link or checkout (Payment integration from CA$99; processor fees separate). Whether and how you charge is a firm and law society matter.

Can we show client testimonials?

Only within your law society's marketing rules. We build the section so it can be enabled or removed and recommend confirming the current rules first.

What does a law firm website cost with Redenn?

Business Plus at CA$799 includes booking and a CMS. A Growth System from CA$1,299 adds CRM integration, website chat and the Search + AI Foundation for firms with several practice areas.
