The short answer
Ontario is the one province where Redenn has an office, in Brampton, and it is also the province with the clearest website accessibility rule: under the AODA, organizations with 50 or more employees must make public websites conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA. Add 13% HST at checkout and PIPEDA for customer data, and you have the Ontario checklist this page works through.
What is different about a business website in Ontario
- AccessibilityUnder the AODA Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation, private and non-profit organizations with 50 or more employees, and public-sector organizations, must make public websites and web content conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA, with limited exceptions. (Government of Ontario)
- TaxOntario charges 13% HST, a single combined federal-provincial tax that an online store applies to Ontario customers. Rates change and must be verified. (Canada Revenue Agency)
- PrivacyOntario is not among the provinces with substantially similar private-sector privacy legislation, so PIPEDA applies to personal information collected in commercial activity. (Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada)
- Email and SMSCASL requires consent, identification and an unsubscribe mechanism for commercial electronic messages such as newsletters and promotional SMS. (Government of Canada)
- Local marketToronto is Canada's financial centre; Brampton and Mississauga beside Toronto Pearson have a large trucking and logistics sector; Ottawa hosts the federal government and a technology sector; Hamilton and southwestern Ontario have a manufacturing base.
Running a business website in Ontario: what is different
The AODA is the rule people ask about most. It requires private and non-profit organizations with 50 or more employees, and all public-sector organizations, to make public websites and web content conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA, with limited exceptions. Smaller businesses are not covered, but we build every site to the same accessibility patterns because it costs nothing extra.
Ontario has no private-sector privacy law of its own, so PIPEDA applies to customer data collected in commercial activity. An online store selling to Ontario customers applies 13% HST, a single combined tax, which is simpler than the GST-plus-provincial-tax setups elsewhere. CASL applies to any newsletter or promotional text.
| Requirement | Applies to | What to do on the website |
|---|---|---|
| AODA WCAG 2.0 AA | 50+ employees; public sector | Semantic HTML, contrast, keyboard navigation, accessibility statement |
| 13% HST | Stores selling to Ontario customers | Ontario rate at checkout; verify with the CRA |
| PIPEDA | Commercial collection of personal data | Privacy policy, purpose statements beside forms |
| CASL | Newsletters, promotional SMS | Consent, sender identification, unsubscribe |
| CIRA .ca | Registering a .ca | Register in the business's name, not the developer's |
Which Redenn products fit Ontario businesses
Ontario's SMB economy is trades, transport and professional services. Jagbir Transport, an asset-based trucking company in Toronto, is the type of business the Business package (CA$499) with Search Setup is built for: a site that speaks to shippers and drivers. Empire Framing Inc., a custom framing contractor working across Ontario, the GTA, Manitoba and Alberta, is the multi-region case where service-area pages matter more than a page per city.
Realtors and mortgage brokers usually want Business Plus (CA$799) for the blog and booking. Dentists and clinics add booking (CA$99) and the AI Receptionist (from CA$149/month) for missed calls. Manufacturers with a catalogue need a custom quote or Ecommerce from CA$1,499.
Local search in Ontario
Ontario is big enough that a Toronto search and a Thunder Bay search are different markets. A business in one city needs a complete Google Business Profile and one strong location page. A business covering the GTA should list service areas on its profile and build pages only for areas where it can say something specific: projects done, permits, drive times.
Local Search Foundation (CA$199) covers Search Setup, Google Business Profile optimization and local structured data. Ongoing Local Search Management starts from CA$299/month for one location. Results are never guaranteed.
How we work with Ontario clients
Our registered office is at 91 Cookview Drive, Brampton. That does not change how we work: projects run by video call, email and a shared board whether you are in Mississauga or Sudbury.
Ontario clients get the same ownership terms as everyone: your domain at Cloudflare Registrar in your name, your code, your analytics. Hosting is Redenn Business (CA$199/year) for most business sites.

Questions from Ontario businesses
Does my small business have to comply with AODA website rules?
The WCAG 2.0 AA requirement applies at 50 or more employees and to public-sector bodies. Smaller businesses are exempt; we build to it anyway.
Which Ontario cities does Redenn serve?
All of them, remotely from Brampton. Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, London or Windsor are served the same way.
What tax does my Ontario online store charge?
13% HST for Ontario customers; other provinces by destination. Rates change, so verify with the CRA.
Do I need a French version of my Ontario website?
Not under Ontario law. If you sell to the Quebec public, the Charter of the French Language applies; see our Quebec page.
Can you modernize my existing WordPress site?
Yes. WordPress Modernization starts from CA$499 with a redirect map and Search Console handover. Some WordPress websites should stay on WordPress; we will say so.
